Scholar & Teaching Fellow Alum Spotlight: Jamal Hill

Former Breakthrough Atlanta scholar and teaching fellow Jamal Hill is an example of how support for Breakthrough Atlanta changes lives. He says his Breakthrough experience set a positive trajectory for his future.

“I’m a living testament to how impactful the program can be,” Jamal said. “Twenty-two years ago is when my Breakthrough story began. Little did I know, it would be the beginning of my own personal breakthrough. It was the foundation that gave me the confidence and high expectations that led me on the path to college, and ultimately on to law school to officially become Jamal Hill, Esquire.”

Today, Jamal is an attorney in Philadelphia and he still maintains a relationship with a former teaching fellow who served as a role model and mentor for him when he was a scholar at Breakthrough Atlanta. He also serves as board member for Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia.

“That is just one example of the types of relationships this program fosters. And that’s a big reason why I felt obligated to pay it forward and return to Breakthrough as a teaching fellow, and now an advisory board member myself.”
