Tuition-free, year-round program prepares students for success in school and sets the foundation for future college enrollment
Breakthrough Atlanta has opened the application period for their esteemed six-year High School Readiness Program. Operating year-round, the program prepares middle and high school students to excel socially and academically, with an eye towards earning a four-year degree in the future. The tuition-free program enrolls students in school districts throughout the metro Atlanta area.
“At Breakthrough Atlanta, we are wholly invested in our scholars and ensuring they are on track for high school and college,” said Monique Shields, CEO of Breakthrough Atlanta. “We understand the importance of working with students and their families, starting from the time they’re in middle school, to establish and achieve academic and personal goals in preparation for future educational attainment and a lifetime of success.”
Students going into seventh, eighth, and ninth grades during the 2025-2026 school year are encouraged to apply for the High School Readiness Program. The application period is open from November 2024 to April 2025.
The first opportunity for students to begin the program is the summer before their seventh-grade year. For three summers, students attend Breakthrough’s fun and challenging six-week Summer Program, which includes:
- English Language Arts, math, science and STEM classes to help students where they may be struggling, and to preview content for the upcoming school year.
- Creative electives in areas such as photography, coding, public speaking, sports and more.
During the school year, students attend Super Saturdays where they:
- Explore the non-academic skills they will need to achieve their college and career goals through interactive activities and field trip.
- Develop the critical thinking skills and maturity to make wise choices about school and life through sessions that include, for example, personality and learning styles, personal values, goal setting, study habits, and more.
Breakthrough Atlanta will host virtual informational sessions from 6 – 7 p.m. on the dates below. Current sixth, seventh, and eighth graders and their families are encouraged to attend. The meeting can be accessed at this Zoom link. Advance registration is not required.
