Preparing Students
For High School and Beyond

Breakthrough Atlanta’s High School Readiness programs continue to equip students with the academic skills, confidence, and life strategies they need to thrive. This fall, students participated in two Super Saturday sessions focused on STEM, financial literacy, and social-emotional learning.

We also launched a new partnership with Wealthy Habits, introducing students to foundational financial literacy skills such as budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions. These lessons help students develop practical skills that will serve them in high school, college, and beyond.

This momentum is reflected in our strong student engagement, with over 70% of High School Readiness students already re-enrolled for Summer 2026. As we look ahead, we’ve begun the interview process for our next cohort of Teaching Fellows, ensuring Breakthrough continues to recruit and prepare passionate educators to support students and inspire learning during the summer program and throughout the year.

Breakthrough College Prep programming has been buzzing with meaningful moments and milestones that support our students and families at every step of their journey.

Breakthrough’s 11th grade students distributed 130 books to local elementary students as part of the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy 1 Million Book Giveaway. In partnership with Hands On Atlanta, students will participate in Discovery Day @ Scott Elementary School, supporting Fulton County K–5 students through literacy, health and wellness, STEAM, and enrichment activities. Each book will include a personal note of encouragement from a Breakthrough scholar, reinforcing the power of education and perseverance. This event reflects Breakthrough Atlanta’s commitment to developing student leaders who give back to their communities while building pathways to future college success.

This fall, students took part in six Super Saturday sessions tailored to their grade level and focused on building essential skills for the road ahead. Highlights included:

  • 9th Grade: Reimagining neighborhoods in partnership with the Museum of Design Atlanta

  • 10th Grade: Hands-on support with Pre-College Experience applications

  • 11th Grade: Social impact projects through the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy

  • 12th Grade: Financial literacy workshops in collaboration with Wealthy Habits

In addition to Super Saturdays, students participated in robust college prep advising sessions throughout the fall:

  • 9th Grade: Three sessions focused on career discovery

  • 10th Grade: Three sessions centered on developing a college vision and exploring AP opportunities

  • 11th Grade: Three sessions dedicated to building a best-fit college list and preparing for the SAT

  • 12th Grade: Five sessions guiding students through the college application process

We also continued to strengthen family engagement through Parent Champion University, hosting two of four book study sessions co-facilitated by CPP team members and parents. This year’s book, College Ready: Expert Advice for Parents to Simplify the College Transition, has sparked thoughtful conversations and shared learning.

Adding to the excitement, representatives from the University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University, and Georgia State University joined us at both Super Saturday and advising sessions, giving students valuable opportunities to connect directly with colleges.

Together, these experiences reflect a vibrant season of growth, learning, and partnership across our College Prep Program.

Black History Month is a time to honor the achievements, leadership, and lasting contributions that have shaped our communities and our country. At Breakthrough Atlanta, this history inspires our work and the students and educators we serve—young people whose talent, determination, and potential drive everything we do.

Throughout February, we invite you to join us in reflecting, learning, and celebrating in meaningful ways, such as visiting historic landmarks, exploring civil rights museums, reading influential authors, or supporting locally owned businesses in our community.

We’re excited to invite you to join us for an unforgettable event—Breakthrough Atlanta’s Pickleball Tournament! Whether you’re an experienced player or new to the game, this tournament is a fantastic way to have fun, connect with others, and support Breakthrough.

Taking place on April 25, 2026, the tournament will feature a round-robin format, giving teams the chance to play multiple matches before advancing to the finals. Each match will be played in a 2v2 format, ensuring plenty of fun, competition, and court time for all participants.

Here’s the best part: Every match, every serve, and every win helps raise crucial funds to support Breakthrough students in our transformative educational programs. By participating, you’ll enjoy a thrilling evening of competition while making a real difference in the lives of our students and teaching fellows.

So, grab a partner, sign up today, and get ready to play for a purpose! Whether you’re on the court or cheering from the stands, your involvement will make an impact. Let’s come together for a fun-filled night of community, excitement, and giving back.
