On the evening of May 1, Breakthrough Atlanta served up more than just competition—it launched a spirited new tradition with its first-ever Pickleball Tournament at the Atlanta Pickleball Center. The event brought together nearly 100 supporters, including students, parents, teaching fellows, and community members, all rallying behind a common cause: expanding educational opportunities for underserved students.
Led by event chairs Janis Middleton, Tiffany Mitsui, and Reeves Holden, the tournament featured 18 teams in a round-robin format, welcoming players of all skill levels to participate in a fun, fast-paced evening of play. A father-daughter duo ultimately beat all other teams to emerge the champions. But the real victory was off the court: the tournament raised $17,000 to support Breakthrough Atlanta’s transformative, year-round academic programs for underserved youth. These funds directly contribute to creating brighter futures through rigorous academics, leadership development, and college preparation.
